Audition Information

Auditons

How our roster & call list works: As a project-based ensemble, NCCA primarily meets during the week of a performance, with the occasional pre-project-week rehearsal. Each project is rostered based on a number of factors, and varies in size and structure. While we maintain a "core" roster of singers from project to project, the nature of the ensemble is such that new singers are brought in regularly to fill vacancies and for projects with more extended rosters. We hold auditions on a rolling basis throughout the whole year to add to our call list, and individual project rosters are built from this list.

A successful audition means that you will be added to our call list, but does not constitute a guaranteed position in every NCCA project. We make this disclaimer because there are a limited number of positions available and our team works to create the best combination of voices to fit the repertoire at hand.

How to Audition: All audition materials should be sent via email to Artistic Director James Mauk. To submit a recorded audition or request a live audition, applications should email the following materials to: artisticdirector@carolinachoralartists.org

Please title subject line: Audition Materials (First name, Last name, Voice part).

  • Current musical resume/CV

  • References who can speak to your experience and qualifications in choral singing

  • Two solo vocal works of contrasting styles. These works may be of any style that show off your range and vocal flexibility, and may be sung accompanied or a cappella. Video recordings are preferable, but audio recordings are given full consideration.

    • Sound and video files may be links to your website media page, or recordings as attachments to your email.

Recorded Auditions:

Recorded auditions are accepted on a rolling basis at any time. For a recorded audition, please submit all of the above materials and indicate you are submitting a recorded audition.

Live Auditions:

Live auditions are held when the Artistic Director is in town, either in Rocky Mount or where an NCCA project is taking place, and are encouraged whenever possible. However, all applicants will be given full consideration. Pre-screening for live auditions is required, and to be considered for a live audition you must submit all of the above materials and indicate that you are applying for a live audition.
